Bar Code
A bar code is a system for representing data. It historically uses a series of variable width bars and spaces that can be read by a machine using an optical scanner. Newer barcode technologies use 2D patterns as opposed to the 1 dimensional bar and space system. Bar codes are commonplace in inventory systems.
