Uncompromising quality of precision tools

Uncompromising quality of precision tools

Company News Friday, May 31, 2013: First Cut (Pty) Ltd

A history rich in innovation characterises the Starrett organisation. The founder, Laroy S. Starrett was the inventor of the world’s first combination square in 1877. The research and engineering invested in this precision tool laid the foundations for the company’s current high-quality product offering.

As one of southern Africa’s leading distributors of international capital equipment and consumables, First Cut is a local distributor for Starrett. “The Starrett range of precision tools is renowned for its ability to repeatedly provide customers with the highest possible accuracy levels,” says Gary Willis, Sales Director at First Cut.

“First Cut has heeded the multiple requests from skilled workmen in the industry to provide them with tools that create an exemplary finish. Popular with both woodcrafters and engineering companies, the Starrett range of precision tools is designed and manufactured to produce best-of-breed results,” says Willis.

“Starrett precision tools find favour with the tool and die industry and in engineering companies where CNC lathes and milling machines are utilised. Engineering companies that manufacture components need the assurance that there is complete precision in the end product and consistency between repetitive components. Likewise, automotive manufacturers stake their reputation on the critical accuracy of each part that forms part of the vehicle. Anything less than 100% quality is unacceptable,” says Willis.

The Starrett range of verniers, micrometers, combination squares, gauges and dial gauges has been refined over the 132 years since the company was founded. While each measurement tool in the range retains its fundamental original design, carefully analysed enhancements have been incorporated to keep pace with a dynamic market.

Willis points out that while the Starrett range of precision tools is considered highly sophisticated, the products are nevertheless easy to use. “Starrett is cognisant that while clients demand reliability and consistency, they also appreciate the fact that productivity and fast turnaround times cannot be sacrificed. The Starrett range incorporates quality in end results, with a simultaneous faster cycle time for increased profitability.”

Willis explains that great care is taken during the manufacturing process to ensure that instruments are well calibrated according international standards, allowing for smooth and sensitive adjustments.

“Clients are assured of only the highest standards in measurement precision since each of the Starrett products are sold with a calibration certificate. This certificate underlines the commitment Starrett makes to its clients that any measurements undertaken using a Starrett precision tool are guaranteed to meet the exacting standards demanded by industry.

“First Cut is devoted to finding cost-effective and sustainable ways of increasing the quality of customer products and the productivity of their operations. Starrett precision tools reflect First Cut’s focus on quality-driven market offerings that offer superior return on investment,” Willis concludes.
