Cummins SA opens new 'Gauteng Operation' in Johannesburg

 

10 April, 2013: Cummins Southern Africa is proud to announce that the company has consolidated its Gauteng-based branches to establish its first full-line ‘Gauteng Operation’ in Longmeadow Business Estate, Kempton Park. 

 

The Cummins Gauteng Operation - which was established to improve the company's branch and dealer network, customer service and turnaround times - was officially opened on 18 March 2013 at an official ribbon cutting ceremony attended by high profile executives such as Pamela Carter - Cummins Vice President and President of the Distribution Business, and Ron Somerville - Cummins executive managing director for Africa.

 

Speaking at the opening, Carter stressed the increasingly important role that Africa will be playing in the international marketplace. "Cummins recognises that Africa is the newest frontier for dramatic growth now and in the future. We are committed to providing significant investment in Africa. Our commitment  includes continuous investment in the training and development of our people in Africa, and the full build out of a comprehensive and responsive network infrastructure to ensure that our customers receive excellent customer care, support and service every time. It also includes engagement with the communities in which we live and work. We intend to remain in Africa for the long term and are encouraged by our progress to date. "

 

Cummins Southern Africa Managing Director Jacques Fourie notes that the establishment of the Gauteng Operation is the beginning of a new strategic direction for Cummins South Africa, which will be focusing on its core business as an engine company that offers customers superior service and technical support. 

 

According to Fourie, the Longmeadow operation focuses on both the Cummins whole goods and aftermarket businesses, with a strong priority placed on product sales, certified engine rebuilds, engine repowers and application engineering. "This facility brings together the best that we have to offer with regards to our customer and OEM value propositioning. The power generation aftermarket business, heavy duty truck and bus business and all midrange segments, including defence, will all operate from this hi-tech facility equipped to support Cummins OEMs and customers."

 

He continues: "By combining our automotive aftermarket business, whole goods engine business, dealer development and power generation aftermarket business, we are able to better leverage our parts, service and technical organisations across the market segments we serve, by providing better customer service, while reducing working capital and costs."
