The MA RDU 216 from NewElec, is a remote panel-mounted keypad entry display unit, which can be used as a handheld programming and display device for the NewElec MA range of motor protection relays. The unit permits the user to set all protection parameters and monitor the actual values while the motor is in operation. It also allows the user to view the fault alarms and real time clock logged faults.
In order to alter any settings, a dongel connected in line with the serial communication cable is required, eliminating unauthorised alterations. If the dongel is not available, read only functions are tolerated by the device.
All functions are accessible via a membrane keypad, while the 2 x 16 backlit LCD display is used to indicate the menu-driven requested values. It is also used to prompt the operator as to which key to press in the event of a multiple keystroke sequence.
The MA RDU 216 accommodates up to eight memory slots that are useful for storing information, even when the auxiliary power supply is removed, to allow the setting parameters to be downloaded to the appropriate MA motor protection relay.
The MA RDU 216 is available mounted in a toolbox complete with all communications cables, a user- selectable mains or battery power source and a battery charger. This was developed to allow maintenance staff to program the NewElec MA relays even when no external power source is available.
