DEUTZ TCD 3.6 L4 sets new benchmark in its class

DEUTZ TCD 3.6 L4 sets new benchmark in its class

Product News Friday, December 2, 2011: Deutz

The new four-cylinder in-line engine TCD 3.6 L4, which DEUTZ premiered at the BAUMA 2010 exhibition in Munich, sets a new benchmark for its class.

Thanks to its very specific combination of capacity, injection technology and exhaust aftertreatment, the TCD 3.6 achieves an impressive torque curve that peaks at 460Nm at a speed of 2,300 – 2,600 rpm over its entire power output range of 50 - 95kW. The state-ofthe-art common-rail injection system, front gear drive and optional balancer shafts ensure low noise emissions, minimal vibration and smooth running characteristics under all operating conditions. This makes the turbo-charged, water-cooled, four-cylinder in-line engine with or without charge air cooler and with external, cooled exhaust gas recirculation the clear leader in the three-litre engine class. For compact wheel loaders, telescopic forklifts and other medium-duty construction and warehouse vehicles, in particular, a single engine installation can be used for the entire range of equipment - with all the concomitant benefits in terms of low design and logistics costs for the equipment manufacturer due to the extensive use of common parts.

In keeping with the trend toward smaller engines, the TCD 3.6 L4 is the perfect replacement for the 4.0 to 4.5-litre engines with power outputs of up to 95kW. State- of-the-art common-rail injection technology, combined with cooled exhaust gas recirculation and optimised combustion, provide for exceptionally high startup and peak torque curves that are manifested in an extremely rapid increase in load and engine speed and equally rapid acceleration.

DEUTZ also offers a wide choice of exhaust gas aftertreatment options for the TCD 3.6 L4. In addition to the standard solution, which covers the power output range up to 95kW with a particulate oxidation catalytic converter, there is also the option of a pure diesel oxidation catalytic converter for power outputs up to 56kW. For the entire power output spectrum between 50 and 95kW, there is also the option of a closed diesel particulate filter with an upstream oxidation catalytic converter and electronic throttle valve. With the introduction of the Euro IV / Tier 4 final emissions standards from 2015, an additional module of the DEUTZ DVERT® system in the shape of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) will be added to the exhaust aftertreatment of the TCD 3.6 L4 above 56kW in order to further reduce emissions. This will put DEUTZ in a position to produce flexible and future-proof drive solutions for the many different requirements resulting from the broad range of customer applications.

In addition to low fuel consumption, low CO2 emissions and oil change intervals as high as 500 hours, the use of a maintenance-free valve train represents a particular focus on the minimisation of operating costs. The open particulate filter solutions, made possible by the extremely low particulate raw emissions of the base engine, also increase the availability of equipment while at the same time lowering maintenance costs for the operator. For markets with less stringent emissions quality standards, engine variants will be available without the emission control systems but identical in all other respects. This means that the TCD 3.6 L4 will be able to meet the differing demands of all international markets.

The TCD 3.6 L4 offers customers the option of an extremely flexible and compact engine installation with significantly enhanced performance.
