Schneider Electric South Africa introduces ultra-compact motor starter

A global specialist in energy management, Schneider Electric South Africa’s new TeSys H, a 22.5 mm-wide multifunctional starter for asynchronous motors, promises to save a significant amount of space in control cabinets through the use of intelligent design and innovative technology.

This new, multifunctional starter for motors up to 3 kW/400 V can be used in a variety of industries, including food and beverage, logistics, and durable goods. It’s suitable for machines like conveyors, logistics systems and feeding systems of production machines.

The TeSys H helps to significantly reduce space in control cabinets by providing up to four functions within its 22.5 mm-wide body: Forward running, Reverse running, Protection against motor overload and phase unbalance, and Safe shutdown up to SIL3/PLe in the Safe Torque Off variant.

 

The benefits of TeSys H

The TeSys H offers up to 75% space reduction, making it suitable for all control cabinets where saving space is a priority and installation time is reduced by 60%, thanks to the efficiency of having embedded functions in one compact body.

The Safe Torque Off variant offers SIL3/PLe safe shutdown, which simplifies the design of safety architecture and a long electrical life, with up to 30 million AC53a electrical cycles, guaranteeing reliable performance in demanding applications.

 

Two TeSys H models

Both the standard TeSys H motor starter and the Safe Torque Off motor starter, for use as a part of safety chains, are designed for high demanding applications.

The green-labelled standard type is equipped with fault auxiliary contact; three reset options (manual, remote, and automatic), as well as wide setting range (0.18 to 2.4A and 1.5 to 9A), control voltage (24 VDC or 110-230 VAC), and four LEDs for easy diagnostics. Installation and maintenance are simple thanks to a direct mounting on a 35 mm DIN rail. This model is CE and UL certified.

The red-labelled Safe Torque Off model for safety-chain applications provides all the three standard functions, plus an additional “safe shutdown function”. This model meets the requirements of functional safety and is rated SIL3 according to IEC 61508-1 or PLe according to ISO 13849-1. Moreover, it is ATEX-certified, in addition to possessing standard CE and UL certificates.
