3D scanning refers to the rapid capture of complex shapes utilizing laser based 3D scanning technology. The 3D scanner emits a laser stripe which sweeps over the part to be scanned. A CCD camera records data points along the length of the strip to capture XYZ data points.
The output from this process is called a “cloud of points”. Some Objets may be scanned from multiple positions and orientations to ensure complete coverage. In-house, we utilize the Range 7 & Vivid 9i 3D scanners from Konica-Minolta.
Through our technology partners, we have access to systems from FARO, Leica, Z-Corp & Surphaser. Specialized software, such as Rapidform or Geomagic, is used to align or register the different point clouds together. The final data set can then be post processed to the desired file format for the customer’s application.

Send the parts to us, or we’ll come to you. Many of the systems that we employ are fully portable, allowing our teams to travel to remote locations to scan parts that are too large or heavy to ship to our facility.
From Mayan artifacts in the jungles of Guatemala to assault vehicles in the deserts of eastern California, or nuclear power plants in Europe, we’ll go just about anywhere.
